There are golf balls that are made for speed and distance and then there are golf balls that are made for precision and control. This Bridgestone B330 RXS is a rare successful hybrid between the two.

As we have mentioned in other articles, the key aspects to look at when shopping for golf balls are the core (thickness and stiffness), coating (surlyn or urethane), and dimples (usually ranging between 300 and 500).

"12

So with that in mind, let’s take a look at this particular design from Bridgestone to see what it excels at and what you might be missing from it.

Pros

The core is a gradational compression core. For those of us who aren’t professional golf ball manufacturers, that means it’s a softer core and what that translates to in your game is less spin. It helps provide a straighter drive with more distance.

The larger size of the core also adds power and distance to your shot so this is leaning on the side of being exclusively a driver ball.

However, it has a urethane coating which is a lighter coating that gives you more control over the ball so you can handle those trickier shots and lob up into the air if you need to, although you won’t get as much height as you could with a ball that had more dimples on its surface.

Overall, this is an excellent hybrid of distance and control that makes for a pretty reliable multi-purpose golf ball.

Cons

While it has a low dimple count (which usually means it doesn’t get much height), the unique design of the dimples themselves allow it to gain height more quickly than you would expect. However, unlike heavily dimpled balls, they also go for distance so when you need those high, short shots (as you might for, say, kicking yourself out of a bunker), this will be difficult to use.
