Garmin Approach S20 Golf Watch – Black

For most golfers, golf watches tend to be strapped on just before a round and removed immediately afterwards.

This is not the case for this Garmin Approach S20 Watch. The Garmin Approach S20 Watch is not only useful when on the golf course, but it can be used as your everyday watch as well.  Of course if you’re reading this you are most interested in the upgraded features that will help improve your golf game.  Garmin did a great job making improvements and upgrading features on the previous model, making this the go-to smart watch for golfers today.

Within the Garmin family, the S20 most closely compares with the aging Garmin S4 in terms of features. And though there are a number of improvements beyond the S4, Garmin curiously hasn’t reduced the price of their S4 from $249 list, even with the release of the sub-$200 S20 (though the S4 is available for less from Amazon).

We recommend researching the Amazon product pages for a variety of golf watches and reading a good amount of reviews and all the product features before making your final decision.

The Approach S20 is built entirely from plastic, and is available in black, white and midnight blue. The plastic watch is matched by a rubber strap, the design of which comes from the company's line-up of running watches. It's not ugly, but it's not much of a looker either, and while it's fine out on the golf course, it hardly stands up visually as a golfer's everyday timepiece.  It gets the job done for use as an everyday smart watch, but if you’re looking for something more flashy we recommend something different.

The screen is a pretty dull monochrome affair, similar to any of the existing Forerunners. The 128 x 128 panel just displays texts and super-basic graphics, but it's legible in bright sunshine, easy to read and does its job solidly.

Autoshot – Although there were a few users that loved this feature, there were several complaints that it didn’t track a fair number of shots and there was no way to manually input a shot when the watch didn’t pick it up.

The Garmin Approach S20 is an excellent choice for a golf watch for golf geeks like us, and it’s a no brainer to give you an extra edge on the golf course.
